MasterShrive 2,018 Report post Posted November 14, 2017 Yeah, I was thinking the same. But if it was a feature on a TV I ended up with I'd probably give it a go. But I'm not sure there's much in existence there. Go to top Share this post Link to post
fencer 175 Report post Posted November 15, 2017 I have had a 3D tv for a good while and I've used it about twice since I've had it. I think I've used the Asus 3D monitor I am using to view this about 1% more. I do remember trying BF4 in 3D and that it seemed pretty good but using it in multi player seemed to be a disadvantage or so it felt so I never really tried it again. Pay more for an OLED instead Go to top Share this post Link to post
Decroxx 816 Report post Posted November 15, 2017 My TV is 3D. It's pretty thin, but nowhere near 2D. 1 3 Go to top Share this post Link to post
MasterShrive 2,018 Report post Posted November 15, 2017 Well played Sir. I went with the LG OLED55B7T. Seemed a good price point, decent reviews and I could source it locally (thought I'd try that option first). Hopefully it arrives soon. Go to top Share this post Link to post
fencer 175 Report post Posted November 18, 2017 nice choice, let us know what you think when you get it up and running. also make sure you find and try out some calibration tv setup configs on the net. Go to top Share this post Link to post
MasterShrive 2,018 Report post Posted November 18, 2017 Yeah, I was thinking I should look into the calibration side of things. I probably need to do that properly with my monitor as well. Go to top Share this post Link to post
Noods 290 Report post Posted November 22, 2017 Have u sorted sound yet shrives? I just brought an older model Yamaha 5.1 that just takes optical from the TV from for about $150 and some shitty speakers for $100 (that aint that shitty) from ebay. U don't get all the fancy shit u get with the new ones like being able to control it from your phone and stream music straight to it over wifi but for that price its sweet as, and I have found work arounds for all the fancy stuff. For online viewing I just connect laptop to TV through HDMI and embrace the cloud my friend! I don't bother with having any need for storage of movies or music in this day and age. MasterShrive 2,018 Report post Posted November 22, 2017 I'm leaving the sound as is for the moment. However, my current receiver can't do 4K, so I'll have to plug things into the TV and then send the sound through it (which from what I've read seems to be the backwards way of doing it). That said, has anyone played 4K files on Windows 10? I just did a quick experiment with one (a 25GB version of Passenger) and VLC player could not cope with it, even on my main machine (I think my HTPC almost had smoke coming out of it). Noods 290 Report post Posted November 22, 2017 (edited) Yeah thats how I do it. From TV to the receiver. Then it doesn't matter what ever Iv'e got running on my tv eg Laptop, Playstation, or antenna I don't need to switch the receiver. I remember looking into receivers a fair while ago and yeah you can use your receiver to switch all your different inputs, but i found it simpler to just have that all running through my TV's hdmi inputs which allowed me to get an older cheaper receiver that didn't have any hdmi inputs. Still a great amp that would power some solid speakers. If you do it this way then it shouldn't matter if your amp can do 4k (i think?) I don't really know of any downfalls doing it this way but there could be some i'm not aware of with all the new tech out there now. RallyMan 304 Report post Posted November 22, 2017 have you tried running your 4K content from your NAS shrives or just the PC? Go to top Share this post Link to post
MasterShrive 2,018 Report post Posted November 23, 2017 From both, actually. The NAS and network didn't seem to have any trouble streaming it (based on the CPU load on the NAS and the network monitoring). But regardless of whether it was the PC or the NAS, the same issues happened when playing (very jumpy etc.). The opening sequence (mainly black with titles) looked amazing though, lol. RallyMan 304 Report post Posted November 23, 2017 i had a similar issue with my NAS when playing files over wifi but once i hardwired the network seemed to cope much better ps i just picked up all the speakers and projector for our new cinema room in the new house we are building. ill have to post some pics up 1 Go to top Share this post Link to post
Nath 98 Report post Posted February 14, 2018 @Duckz did you end up buying the Hisense N7 65? I'm in the market for a new tv and have been looking at that one too. Room is big so need 65 inches, I would like OLED but can't justify the cost. Go to top Share this post Link to post
MiniSanders 588 Report post Posted February 14, 2018 I bought this one https://www.thegoodguys.com.au/tcl-55-inches138cm-uhd-led-lcd-smart-tv-55c2us Only issue I have with it is the smart TV side... since it is Android it can take a while to start up. Picture is nice though, especially when something is actually in 4k... Go to top Share this post Link to post
Duckz 474 Report post Posted February 14, 2018 (edited) No I haven't, only because I haven't been in a position at the moment where I've needed to buy it. It is still one that is on top of my list, mainly because of the price per performance/quality. I'll probably end up doing some more research once I eventually have to buy a new TV. I'd probably consider a Sony unit too, because I remember reading that their 4K upscaling engine is supposed to be shit hot. In my mind, try and purchase something around $1500 mark. If you're willing to spend $2500+, at that price, I don't see the point in half assing it, and you might as well spend a bit more and go 4K HDR OLED. But as I've said before, it's worth going to go and have a play with the different UI's that they use, that can push you one way or another too, unless you're using a dedicated streaming device. Just got an email from OzBargains. JB Hi-Fi currently have the 65N7 for $1596, plus 20% off on other TV's until the 18th of Feb, but that isn't really uncommon. You wouldn't pay for any big ticket item at RRP these days with that many deals going on. Edited February 14, 2018 by Duckz Go to top Share this post Link to post
Nath 98 Report post Posted February 15, 2018 Thanks @Duckz. I've also seen the Hisense N8 65 for $2300 which isn't a whole lot more than the N7 has been . It hasn't reviewed too well from what I can see, but that seems to be when compared with more premium sets as that's what the N8 and N9 were targetting. I can't seem to find a consensus on whether the N8 is better than the N7. Go to top Share this post Link to post

Haven't got to test it out yet though as im waiting till we move house next week and I can mount it on the wall. Fingers crossed. 1 Go to top Share this post Link to post
Nath 98 Report post Posted February 18, 2018 Question for anyone that has mounted a tv, what do you do for surge protection given the limited space? Would this do It? https://www.bunnings.com.au/belkin-1-outlet-2-usb-surge-protector-powerboard_p4420413 Go to top Share this post Link to post
PistolKnight 554 Report post Posted February 19, 2018 Are you "hiding" the cables behind the wall or is there a powerpoint up the wall behind the TV? I hid my cables (hole behind TV and hole near the bottom of the wall behind a low TV cabinet) which means that the TV power cord (which is quite small) runs down behind the wall and into the cabinet along with all of the other connection cables (aerial, HDMI, USB etc) hidden out of sight. If the TV power cord is not long enough an extension cord will do the trick. To tidy the holes up I used a brush plate you can buy for a few dollars. If the powerpoint is up the wall (behind the TV) then you could just use one brush plate (which is exactly the same size as a rectangular powerpoint and uses the same gyprock bracket) and push the powerpoint in behind the wall which would give you more space and use what you suggested - this will work well if your renting as well as you can just mount the original powerpoint again and no one would ever know. 1 Go to top Share this post Link to post
