Duckz 474 Report post Posted August 19, 2013 Have you looked at other ISP's? A fair few of them these days offer mobile voice and/or data plans. Although they general use the Optus network, so if you don't got decent reception where you are with Optus, then it's maybe not the best idea. I've been with Exetel (ISP I've been with for over 3 years) for my mobile for close to a year now after finishing up my contract on Optus. They don't offer the plan I'm currently on anymore, but it's exactly the same as my old $49 Optus plan, which includes $500 worth of calls and 1.5GB of data, except I'm only paying $15 a month. Blueberry 444 Report post Posted September 4, 2013 I am a little surprised to here it was from England as most first world countries have engineers to make sure this doesn't happen. It is a very well known issue that can happen with buildings so i am just surprised that it is severe as it is. Go to top Share this post Link to post
MasterShrive 2,015 Report post Posted September 4, 2013 I was surprised as well. I wouldn't have thought of it, but as soon as I heard about it the problem made sense and I figured that surely this isn't the first time. Go to top Share this post Link to post

NevilleBartos 405 Report post Posted September 5, 2013 http://www.zdnet.com/au/australian-oppo ... 000020270/ What a joke, more crap we have to put up with for the benefit of parents who are too lazy or selfish to look out for their own kids. Sick of this Abbott idiot, as much as I dislike Rudd at least he actually makes sense. Go to top Share this post Link to post

PistolKnight 554 Report post Posted September 5, 2013 Nev I am concern where you shop for your avatars. As a parent I like the idea - I currently use whitelists for email and restrict apps on devices appropriate to age although there have been some instances where there has been advertising in a game (ipad/ipod etc) that is clearly adult content only. This might make it easier for me to control web browsing as in the past when I have used paid and free tools there is always a myriad of exceptions you have to manually update all the time for legitimate websites that are yet to be rated or are wrongly rated that are used for school projects etc. Go to top Share this post Link to post
MasterShrive 2,015 Report post Posted September 5, 2013 I don't disagree with the general idea. But I do have issue with it coming out two days before an election, with no real substance to the policy at this stage. A tool to help clued on parents is great. But parents who think some filter like this will protect their kids from everything is my concern. Go to top Share this post Link to post

NevilleBartos 405 Report post Posted September 5, 2013 Nev I am concern where you shop for your avatars. LOL its a bit wrong, made me laugh probably more than it should have. I understand parents dont want their kids turning into porn addicts at 13, but they are going to come across some nasty stuff on the internet at some stage, better to educate them on things going on in the world than just block it. If they are too young to understand it then they shouldnt be on the internet without supervision. Go to top Share this post Link to post
PistolKnight 554 Report post Posted September 6, 2013 This has been reversed anyway. Nothing more concerning though when they are making legitimate google searches for projects and assignments given to them and you are sitting there with them and some unfortunate results turns up - it is mainly when searching for images to print and include on their submission Go to top Share this post Link to post

Silent 30 Report post Posted September 6, 2013 - involve mobile phone operators installing adult content filters on phones which will be switched on as the default unless the customer proves he or she is at least 18 years of age; and - involve major internet service providers providing home network filters for all new home broadband services, which will be switched on as the default unless the customer specifies otherwise. This is what their policy states. What I don't get is why they were so specific about blocking porn on mobiles but don't directly state what will be blocked with the home network filters. I hate that they tried to sneak it in. Go to top Share this post Link to post
PistolKnight 554 Report post Posted September 6, 2013 they have backflipped on this so mandatory filtering is no longer part of the policy Go to top Share this post Link to post
Blueberry 444 Report post Posted September 6, 2013 they have back flipped on this so mandatory filtering is no longer part of the policy While they "officially" have back flipped, the fact that is was bought up then dropped when it was negatively received means that it will still be on the agenda if elected. What politicians say during campaigning means didly. Argument could be made for what politicians say period. Go to top Share this post Link to post
Duckz 474 Report post Posted September 11, 2013 Steam Family Sharing - We're a family right? It will soon be available in beta for a limited number of Steam users. Steam Family Sharing allows close friends and family members to play one another's games while earning their own Steam achievements and saving their own game progress to the Steam cloud. It's all enabled by authorizing a shared computer. See a family member's installed game that you want to play? Send them a request to authorize the computer. Once authorized, the lender's library of Steam games become available for others on the machine to access, download and play. Some points of note from the FAQ. IS THERE A LIMIT TO THE NUMBER OF DEVICES I CAN AUTHORIZE TO SHARE MY LIBRARY? Yes. A Steam account may authorize Family Sharing on up to 10 devices at a given time. CAN I SHARE SPECIFIC GAMES, OR DO I HAVE TO SHARE MY WHOLE LIBRARY? Libraries are shared and borrowed in their entirety. CAN ALL STEAM GAMES BE SHARED WITH FRIENDS AND FAMILY? No, due to technical limitations, some Steam games may be unavailable for sharing. For example, titles that require an additional third-party key, account, or subscription in order to play cannot be shared between accounts. CAN A FRIEND AND I SHARE A LIBRARY AND BOTH PLAY AT THE SAME TIME? No, a shared library may only be accessed by one user at a time. Go to top Share this post Link to post

MasterShrive 2,015 Report post Posted September 12, 2013 I knew they had this in the works and I think it's a good idea. It allows you to lend a game to someone and so they can try before they buy. If the original owner wants to play the game they can kick the other person out, so they don't lose anything either. I'd certainly say it's unrealistic to expect multiple people to be able to play the same game (and that would also be open to abuse), but it does go back to the days where you could lend games to people on PC and takes one advantage away from the consoles. Go to top Share this post Link to post
Blueberry 444 Report post Posted September 12, 2013 I'd be willing to share my collection with the understanding that if I wanted to play then you would have to stop. Go to top Share this post Link to post
Duckz 474 Report post Posted September 12, 2013 WHEN I AUTHORIZE A DEVICE TO LEND MY LIBRARY TO OTHERS, DO I LIMIT MY OWN ABILITY TO ACCESS AND PLAY MY GAMES? As the lender, you may always access and play your games at any time. If you decide to start playing when a friend is already playing one of your games, he/she will be given a few minutes to either purchase the game or quit playing. MasterShrive 2,015 Report post Posted September 12, 2013 Nice to give them the option to make the purchase and also pretty good that the achievements go towards your account. Go to top Share this post Link to post
